On June 12, 2020, Summer Place, a Viking Construction project, was recognized as a 2020 Project Team Award winner by the Connecticut Building Congress. This is the first time that a project that Viking built was considered for an award that was presented in 11 categories.
Summer Place is a new affordable housing complex for Stamford residents age 55 and older. The project was the culmination of a joint venture among two non-profits: Charter Oak Communities (the Housing Authority of Stamford) and Inspirica, Inc., a well-established Stamford-based community service provider. This project came to fruition following the destruction brought on by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The 48-unit community is located on what was a vacant, tight, urban infill site. It includes on-site parking and outdoor recreational areas, as well as access to services, shopping, employment opportunities, and public transportation for its residents.
