Congratulations to Marissa Shiland of Sherman, CT, the 2022 Viking Construction Education Scholarship award recipient. Marissa is studying Construction Management at the Univeristy of Mary in Bismark, North Dakota. When she is not studying, Marissa works with a special needs child so that the child’s parents can continue working. She graduated as her high school’s Valedictorian and Class President and was the captain of both the girls cross country and softball teams for two years.
Viking created this scholarship in 2012 to support the general community and, as much as possible, those pursuing construction-related careers. To date, the company has committed $44,000 to students. Marisa will receive $1,000 per year each year she remains in the program (up to $4,000 total).
Applicants need to complete an in-depth submission and essay, along with an in-person interview to be considered for the award, and they must maintain a 2.7 grade point average minimum to continue to receive the award.
We annually invite any graduating high school senior or college student who has declared a major relating to the construction industry to apply for the Viking Construction Education Scholarship. Applications for the 2023 award will be available on the website in the spring.
